What is there to do in Osaka at night that doesn't involve clubbing and/or alcohol? I am going to Osaka in two weeks and I was wondering what there is to do in Osaka at night that doesn't involve clubbing or going to a bar and getting drunk? Thanks!

Canadian replied: "Sleep"

vancouver_syndicate replied: "theatre, movies, find a hobby, karaoke."

GD173 replied: "Lots of stuff to do. Especially if the weather's nice. You could just walk around Namba, Shinsaibashi or Umeda and look at all of the interesting people. You could go to Universal Studios or the promenade at the entrance. Big ferris wheel at Hep Plaza near Umeda. Lots of shopping arcades in both the Namba and Umeda areas. Go to the Kaiyuukan (Aquarium) to see some fishes or more shopping. There's Korean Town for some good restaurants. Even if you don't like drinking, you could probably find a few clubs with live music playing every Friday or Saturday night. You can still go to a club even though you don't want to drink. Osaka Castle is lit up at night. There are even some night cruises that take you around to see the skyline from Osaka Bay. All kinds of fun things. Search Kansai Flea Market or Kansai Time Out for listings of upcoming events."

violentskies13 replied: "Go to doutonbori, the street famous for all the restaurants. It's very lively at night with so many walking the streets. Some of the restaurants are elaborately decorated from the outside (well maybe not that elaborate but there are some interesting ones for photos), shops (there might be a sale at a clothing store and the 100yen shop might still be there), and a pachinko parlor. I'd recommend eating there and then walking around afterwards. (On doutonbori there are very young well-dressed fashionable, some might say good-looking, men who are advertising the clothing stores, if that interests you.) Or you could go shopping in other sections of the city or just walk around to get a sense of the city. It's #2 or #3 largest depending on which statistic you go by so it should be interesting lit up at night. You might be able to catch a band playing if you look at the local guides in English for tourists. If you are into record shopping, do visit Amerika-mura (American village). Or you could go to Spa World if you want to bathe Japanese style with your same gender--and don't mind getting stared at because you're foreign."

What to do in the morning at Osaka,Japan before a 12noon checkout at hotel? I will be arriving at Osaka, Japan at 6pn and will checkout of my hotel by 12noon the following day. What may I do or where may I go in the morning so I get to see Osaka.

Kevin S replied: "Go see Osaka Castle, then go to Dotonbori. Make sure you eat some takoyaki and okonomiyaki!"

young.dave replied: "dotonbori is a night place, lots of action, neon and young people hanging out, mornings aren't great there, check out the vomit from the night before maybe? osaka castle is okay, kind of pretty but not the best example in japan. a true experience of japan would be to ride a morning rush hour train or subway. you could go to the tsutenkaku area, where osaka has it's tower, it's not very tall, positively antique but the area around it has been gentrified recently and resembles showa japan (japan about 50 years ago)"

Where are good and reasonably priced places to stay in Osaka and Tokyo? I may be traveling to Osaka and Tokyo soon, but I will be going by myself, so there's no one to split hotel costs with. Do you have any recommendations for good, cheap places to stay in these areas? Thanks! Legitimate answers only, please.

blitzkrieg replied: "i went to this really cheap place near the dobutsuenmae (in front of zoo) subway station in osaka. it's about 15 US dollars per night for a 3-tatami size room, which has a TV and air conditioning. they have only one shower room for the entire five floor building and one washroom per floor, and three laundry rooms in the entire building. doesn't look too nice in and out, but basically clean and livable. if you're gonna be out most of the day, you can think of staying here. i left one of the comments on the link. btw, if ever you decide to stay in one of their 'business hotels' be warned that no one speaks english there. it's an unwritten rule."

Adam replied: "There is a hotel chain called Toyoko Inn. I stayed there and liked it. It is 6,000 yen or $50."

michinoku2001 replied: "Depends on what you mean by reasonable. You could stay in a youth hostel or capsule hotel for 3000 yen a night or so. You could find a business hotel starting at about 5000 yen. You could stay at pretty decent chain like the Washington Hotel for 7000 or so."

How to get to Osaka from Sheraton grande Tokyo bay hotel in the disney resort ? I will be staying at the sheraton grande bay hotel in tokyo and i want to go to osaka via train how can i get to the train and how to book and buy the tickets and everything ?? i need a fast answer please thank you .

David replied: "The Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay is an official hotel of Tokyo Disney Resort. The hotel are convenient to both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, accessible by Disney Resort Line (monorail). Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay is about 15 minutes from Tokyo station, so the guest can easily visit central Tokyo Odaiba, Asakusa, Roppongi, and so on. Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay are also 80 minutes from Narita Airport and 60 minutes from Haneda Airport via the convenient airport limousine bus. Directions to the hotel: Just reverse the directions: From Tokyo Narita International Airport: Take Higashi Kanto Expressway to Shutoko Expressway Wangan Line. Take the Urayasu Exit, Route 357 to the hotel. From Haneda Airport and Downtown Tokyo: Take Shutuko Expressway Wangan Line to the Kasai Exit, Route 357 to the hotel."

Osamu M replied: "First of all, I will assume you already know how to get to and book the Sheraton Grande and the only concern that you have is about getting from there to Osaka. Now, from that hotel, either walk or take a taxi to the Maihama Train Station. (You may want to go with taxi if you're unfamiliar with the area) If you have absolutely no idea how trains work in Japan, then contact me at I can provide further info about that. Buy a ticket that is eligible to go to the Tokyo Train Station, and don't forget to ride on the train going to the right direction. Once you're at the Tokyo train station, look for the word, Shinkansen (bullet train) which will take you to the major cities across Japan. The train station is EXTREMELY crowded so don't get yourself lost. Now, you want to look for the Tokaido Shinkansen, which is the only shinkansen that will take you to Osaka. Buy a ticket to go to Osaka, and ride the Shinkansen, get off at the Osaka station and do whatever you need to do there. Again if my explanation was too brief or unclear then question me at"

What is the easiest way to use seishun 18 tickets to get from Tokyo to Osaka? 青春18 the tickets where you have an all day pass that you can only use on JR. How do I use them to get from Tokyo to Osaka? Can I use an overnight bus?

hkkkd , replied: "visit, search, book and avail discounts on all your travel needs worldwide from and .................4 ur answer"

TokyoE replied: "The pass only allows you to use LOCAL and RAPID trains. Which means you cannot use the fast Shinkansen "bullet train" From Tokyo to Osaka, it will take about 10 hours by local or rapid trains an require about 4-5 train transfers along the way. This is compared to the Shinkansen which takes about 3 hours and requires no transfer. No the pass is only valid on trains not buses."

Clutchitude replied: "You can't use the Seishun 18 tickets on JR buses, only on non-express JR trains. If you take (primarily) the Rapid trains on the JR Tokaido line, you can get from Tokyo Station to Osaka Station in about 9 hours. For example: 07:40 TOKYO JR Tokaido Line 09:30 09:37 ATAMI JR Tokaido Line 11:19 11:29 SHIMADA JR Tokaido Line 12:13 12:28 HAMAMATSU JR Tokaido Line 13:01 13:07 TOYOHASHIJR Tokaido Line 14:31 14:40 OGAKI JR Tokaido Line 15:17 15:19 MAIBARA JR Special Rapid Service 16:12 16:14 KYOTO JR Special Rapid Service 16:43 OSAKA Good luck!"

uhm101 replied: "If you want to do an overnight Tokyo-Osaka run using seishun 18, the common thing to do is to take the 23:10 Moonlight Nagara from Tokyo station, buy a ¥1450 ticket that will cover the ticket as far as Odawara (arriving there AFTER midnight and thus your seishun 18 will start from that moment), and get your Seishun 18 pass stamped at Osaka, arriving mid-morning (before 10:30 if you make the best connections) with the remainder of the day valid on your ticket and only having used one stamp. Moonlight Nagara is considered Rapid service, and is thus eligible for Seishun 18 travel."

rYokucHa replied: "just taking trains on 東海道本線 and change them few times will take you from tokyo to osaka within 12 hours or something. confer the timetable which are sold everywhere including kiosk at the station and conbini. You cannot use tokkyu densha(including shinkansen obviously) and bus with some exceptions. read the back of the ticket and you will notice some exceptions--for example, you are allowed to use tokkyu if you wanna cross the seikan channel. simply put, the validity of seishun 18 kippu is considered equivalent to the normal ticket, or josha ken so the trains you can take is limited to those of them that you can ride without tokkyu ken. there is an overnight train called ムーンライトながら for which you only have to show your 18 kippu and pay 520yen for researvation. This service will take you to 大垣 in gifu from tokyo with far less stops than the rapid service. be hurry when you change trains at 大垣 if you wanna get a seat."

bluemoonmemory replied: "http://www.excite-webtl.jp/world/english/web/?wb_url=http%3A%2F%2Fallabout.co.jp%2Ftravel%2Frailtravel%2Fcloseup%2FCU20050722A%2F&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2&wb_submit=+%96%7C+%96%F3+ BE sure that you have to choose the limited valid period to take this service. If you just go round between Tokyo and Osaka, Overnight highway bus service round tickets would be much cheaper than Yen11,500. You can save hotel expense one night too. You must change the JR trains so many times from Tokyo to Osaka if you only use local trains for the special ticket. I don't think it is good idea for thrifty trip because you have no guarantee to seat either. If you are so durable that you can stand all 10 hours or more on the trip, it will be alright though."

What is the quickest way to get from Osaka to Kyoto and how long will it take? We arrive in Osaka on a Sunday evening and we depart the following day at 6pm - we would like to see Kyoto in that time frame. What do you recommend? We will have to be back at the Osaka Airport by 3:15pm as our flight leaves at 5:30pm Sorry its the Kansai Airport in Osaka

Nateface replied: "A mobile suit gundam should suffice."

Taro F replied: "Refer to "② The Connection of the Railways " in the right column of this blog. And use "Check your Transportation! " in this blog."

Araújo-Delgado replied: "Here is a site you can use. I recommend using a train. But, I entered Osaka to Kyoto and here are some ways it gave. "

Lydia E replied: "The JR "Special Rapid Service" train from Osaka station to Kyoto station takes about 30 minutes, and they leave every ten to fifteen minutes. You`ll need maybe an hour to get from the airport to Osaka station. There are also buses that go directly between the airport and Kyoto station. They take about one hour and forty-five minutes. "

NMS HKG replied: "fr the Osaka station --> Kyoto station. wil just take 35 mins on a direct train n the train goes every 15 mins. kinda convenience as last time i stayed in the Hilton Hotel & it was rite opp to the Osaka station. just 1 min walk n i caught the train towards Kyoto. Boom!! 35 mins i was there! but those temples which we wanted to c. actually all hiden on the hilltop or deep inside the mountains. it wil take u another 1 hour at least to travel to either temple by bus. unless u take a cab, i guess wil be quicker but super expensive. so, even thou u start early in the morning fr Osaka to Kyoto. half day seem v v rush. so u should consider timing also. as after u back fr Kyoto. u stil need at least 80 mins to go to the airport rite? but rite opp to the Osaka station there's the airport bus aldy. it's quite easy connect."

TokyoE replied: "Quickest way is relative to what you want to visit. For example, many people say take JR to Kyoto from JR Osaka Station to Kyoto Station, yes while this looks fast on paper, and it is the fast way to KYOTO Station. But, if you walked across the street from JR Osaka Station to Hankyu Umeda Station and took a Hankyu Limited Express train to Karasuma or Kawaramachi Stations. Both of these stations are slightly more central in Kyoto then JR Kyoto Station, not to mention Hankyu railways is cheaper then JR trains and just as fast, if you factor in the Time it takes from JR Kyoto Station to Central Kyoto area. Ah you really have a short time frame, so I suggest leaving early in the Morning before. There is a Direct JR train from Kyoto Station to Kansai Airport. You say "Osaka Airport" but I'm at a loss to which one, as there are two airports, "Osaka International Airport/ Itami Airport, despite its name it is the domestic airport" and Kansai International Airport (KIX) which is the main International Airport for the Osaka region. If you mean "Kansai Airport" then there's a Direct JR train from Kyoto Station to Kansai Airport, if your flight leaves at 5:30 and you want to get to the Airport by 3:15, you must leave Kyoto by 1:45pm taking the direct HARUKA LIMITED EXPRESS number 33, arrving at Kansai Airport at 3:03. As you can see doesn't give you much time to see much unless you wake up really early."

How to take the train from Narita Japan to downtown Osaka? I want to go from Narita Station to Namba station on Nankai railway in Osaka. Yes, from Narita Station, although I could start just as easily from the Narita Airport. I am going to the Swiss Hotel which is at the Namba Station. TokyoE is correct, taking a flight is a major hassle not to mention that trains are so much more reliable. Plus for less money than flying coach on a plane you can upgrade to first class on the train. So much better!

TokyoE replied: "From Narita Station and not Narita Airport right? From Narita Station the best thing you can do is take a JR Rapid service train to Tokyo Station (only one train an hour), the train takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to Tokyo Station. At Tokyo Station you want to take the "Shinkansen" Bullet train from Tokyo Station to Shin-Osaka Station. This ride is about 2.5 - 3 hours. This part is all by JR trains so this will cost you around 14,000-15,000 Yen. At Shin-Osaka Station you need to change to the Osaka City Subway Midousuji Line. The Midousuji Line goes all the way to Namba Station on the subway line. All you do at Namba subway station is walk to the Nankai Namba Station. That ride will cost 270yen and take 15 minutes. The transfer from Subway station Namba to Nankai Namba is about 10 minutes. The trip will take about 5 hours with all the transfers involved as well. Edit: It doesn't matter if you start from Nartia Airport station or Narita Station, if you start from Narita Airport then you can take the Narita Express train to Tokyo Station. It is only 15 minutes faster then the Rapid train from Narita Station (the Narita Express doesn't stop at Narita Station). The rapid train can also be taken from NRT station. Remember there is a JR Namba Station, a Kintetsu Namba Station, a Subway Namba Station (the one you will arrive at) and a Nankai Namba Station. The hotel is at the Nankai Namba Station complex, so follow the correct connecting signs. --- Ken Y-N, There are NO flights from NRT to KIX. All the flights go out of Haneda Airport. Of the flights from NRT to ITM (Itami) there are only 3flights a day. So if he flew that route he would have to go through the hassles of flying, arriving at the airport early to go through security checks, then when we arrives at ITM, he needs to make his way from ITM to Namba. So in reality, the amount of hassles is negliable. A train ride from Narita all the way to Namba requires (2) transfers. Not that hard to figure out or do."

Joriental replied: "Narita airport is north-east of Tokyo. Kansai International airport is below Osaka. Osaka is 570km (350miles) away from Narita. If your destination is Osaka or Kyoto, talk to travel agency and change the airport."

Ken Y-N replied: "You're better, I would think, getting a connecting flight from Narita to Kansai International Airport (Itami is closer, but you need to change trains at Umeda) then get the Nankai express straight into Namba. Much less hassle than mucking about with lots of train changing, and you can usually find a plane ticket for round about the price of the Shinkansen."

An affordable but commendable accommodation for a week stay in Osaka, Japan? My mother, sister and I are planning a vacation to Osaka this summer, but my mom won't agree to one unless I find a hotel/inn to stay in that is around $150 less a night. I would love those little Japanese rooms with the sliding doors, and the location preferably near hot springs or shopping districts. Thank you!

bluemoonmemory replied: "In Japan, hotel charges per person not per room so that US$150 for 3 adults with the condition of affordable equipment are quite difficult to find out easily, especially in such big city like Osaka. If you can understand Japanese, this is one of possibilities for reservation through internet with special discount. It says Adult 3person/room costs from Yen14700 to Yen16800/night. You have to pay some more small fares to take Hot spa. Use public bath because no private bath in the room if you need to pay less than standard price range. You may ask them directly for detailed negotiation though. I think standard affordable accommodation for three person requires minimum UD$250 in Osaka. "

Is there a JR route from Nagoya to Osaka? I'm planning to go to Osaka tomorrow, and the shinkansen prices are a little higher than i thought they would be. Is there a way to use JR lines to get from Nagoya to Osaka, even if it means changing trains. It's not about time, i have all the time in the world, but not as much money. I think it's obvious that shinkansens would be a lot faster, hello, fastest trains in world!

girl. replied: "yes there is, but it takes ALOT of more time to get there compared to the shinkansens."

thecheapest902 replied: "Yes, you can go from Nagoya to Osaka by JR local trains. Shinkansen: 50 minutes, 6,000 yen (one way) local train: 3 hours, 3,000 yen It's not such a bad idea to take local trains. You usually have to change train at Maibara station."

sakichin replied: "It takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes (3260 yen) by rapid train in local railways without changing trains (in many cases you need change trains) local railways : JR tokaido-sen =JR Tokaido line (JR東海道線) rapid train=kaisoku (快速) , charge are not needed you can use here 1 check English 2 Start point : nagoya Destination : osaka search 3 input date remove the check on Shinkansen and LIMITED EXPRESS start"

bluemoonmemory replied: "If you use JR line, it is one train change and costs Yen3260 and takes about 3 hours. If you use Kintetsu line, between Kintetsu Nanba and Kintetsu Nagoya, not using toll express train, it is more than 3 train changes and costs Yen2300 and takes about 3 hours."

Taro F replied: "Check this blog. Click "123bus.net" →"OSAKA-NAGOYA""

SillySausage replied: "You can use Shinkansens on some of the lines (as long as it isn't Nozami). I travelled the same journey. I used this website:"

Doraemon replied: "please check in It is hyperdia of Japan homepage and insert the station that you want to go.That is all for my help to you.Hope you can get JR line for once."

Mr Canoe replied: "I'm curious why you asked only about JR trains. At first I thought it was because you have a JR Rail Pass. There is also the Kintetsu "Urban Liner" from Shin-Nagoya Station (connected directly to Nagoya Station, downstairs) to Namba Station in Osaka. Just over two hours, 4100 yen."

How long does it take to ship from Osaka, Japan to USA north carolina using airmail? I have a really quick question here and hopefully someone will help me out...i appreciate it. I recently bought a game from osaka, japan and it has been about two weeks now and still, i've received nothing yet and the guy has no tracking number either. How long does it take to ship from Osaka, Japan to USA, north carolina using airmail?

murasaki replied: "I live in Colorado, and -When my parents send me stuff, it takes less than a week (My parents live in Osaka). -When I buy stuff online that is coming from Japan, it usually takes one week to two weeks (It think it varies because of processing and actual time they spend before ship the product out). So more than that, you might need to contact the seller and see if they have the policy on how long you have to wait. One thing that gets me is that I can't usually buy Japanese game directly from Japanese merchant (DVD either). Did you buy from individual using ebay or something? It is possible that custom did not allow that item to come into U.S... that happened to my friend who is living in Japan and ordered DVD from US. He got call from police about the package.... Anyway, if products doesn't come after 3weeks I would probably dispute the transaction since it should not take that long."
